MILEAGE & NIGHT HOUR TRIPS
Towards your Coastal Skipper Ticket
Mostly group bookings as this works best and BETTER rates apply
Duration: These trips vary according to the weather and students time constraints. Destinations usually Richards Bay or East London.
Assumed Experience: Students should have completed Yacht Hand and Yacht Skipper or the equivalent - to get maximum value. However you may join in with just the Yacht Hand under your belt if you want to log miles and night hours.
Aims and Content: This course is ideal for Competent Yacht Skippers who like to sail in more challenging conditions and gain mileage and night hours. It will turn you into a truly accomplished Skipper, develop your ability to manage a crew and improve your navigation. These trips involve night sailing and will cover preparation for sea-handling under power and sail, pilotage, passage making, the role of the Skipper, how to handle adverse weather conditions and emergency situations, navigation procedures, yacht victualling and watch keeping.
Certificates issued: depending on voyage length....
Offshore Sailing Academy and SA Sailing Course Completion Certificate at Coastal Skipper level.
Please note: ONLY SERIOUS SAILORS wanting to sail port to port in South African waters can after this stage (providing they have covered all the requirements) apply to be examined by the external SA Sailing examiner at SA Sailing COASTAL SKIPPER level - but refer to log book or our office for exact requirements. “SPICERS” going to work overseas do not require this external SA Sailing examination.
